( Not very well ) STAY STAY STAY away from this movie or you will feel totally ripped off like I did. This looks like someone has taken very old footage and tried to convert it to 3D. How it got onto Bluray I don't know ? I was lifting my 3D glasses now and again to work out if the 3D was actually working and the overall picture quality was dismal to say the least. This is not even DVD quality, it's more like a bad pirated version.
#PLANET EARTH 3D BLURAY PLUS#
Unfortunately I didn't do my homework on this movie " Earth 3D " To put it bluntly, it's a load of crap that is not worth $1.00 let alone what I paid for the movie plus shipping. I have bought many blurays from Amazon over recent years,( untill recently all from but just recently .uk ) normally watching trailers, reading reviews etc thru Google, and have always been satisfied if not really pleased. The cover gives a completely misleading impression and this is one to avoid. If you are looking for HD 3D, then this is just not up to the mark and there are far better Blu Ray discs out there. Mostly, the visuals were distinctly lacking, in comparison with other 3D Blu Ray documentaries - like Flying Monsters (Blu-ray 3D), Cave Of Forgotten Dreams (Blu-ray 2D + 3D Blu-ray) etc. But these were quite rare and drawn out beyond any necessary length. There were a few nice images and some decent 3D effects in places. Well if this is what you want, then you will have to look elsewhere. Of course most people are going to be drawn into buying this by the promise of : "breathtaking landscapes and astonishing animals" in 3D. Least bad part of the package was the sound, which was pretty good in Dolby 5.1 surround - some nice music, which worked well, but was mostly covered by the annoying commentary. It is quite annoying and makes you want to either fast forward or turn off the sound.

Leaving aside the quality of the images, what strikes you initially is the dull monotone of the commentary, which may have meant something in German - but here is rendered meaningless and eventually perplexing by the translation. This is obviously a German documentary of indeterminate vintage, which has been hastily "converted", by the addition of an English language commentary and a bit of "snazzy" packaging, which grossly oversells the contents. (Oh, and by the way, the cheetah on the cover makes no appearance on your screen. As it is, the level of incompetence shown is to high and the pretentiousness to heart-felt.

Just a little more flair and I would have been convinced it was a spoof. Anyway, it would be a shame to spoil the fun for anyone who might buy this for the laugh.Īnd here is the one reason to put any kind of money to this product: it is hilariously bad, or nearly so. I tried to memorize some of the more risible phrases, but one after another crowded out the previously noted. The text varies between highfalutin nothingness (pretentious tenth-grader dressed in Kirkegaardian robes, you get the picture), the obvious and well known, and the patently silly. The translation from german gets a D for effort, but even a stellar job could not have saved this. The narrator is not bad, but he has an impossible task.

No lack of competition, in other words, but hands down the winner. The music soundtrack is, I kid you not, the absolutely worst I have been exposed to in my fifty years on this planet. The fact that my home-movies haven't been edited is, at least, an excuse. And indeed, the picture was slightly more blurry without them, so I guess there was some nominal 3D going on. The 3D? Well, it picks up some (not very much), but during the first third I found myself several times lowering my glasses to confirm the presence of any such effects. Lesson learned: just because something is on a Blue-ray disc doesn't mean it belongs on one. Even my first camcoder gave a better resolution and better colors than on display here, and it was old PAL standard, no HD, not even 720 lines. Seriously, my vacation home movies look better and have been better filmed, and I am no Eisenstein. Well, let's start with the picture quality.
